Assignment Four – A Sense of Place
This assignment has been a long time in the making. I have been asked to produce images for a travel publication. Twelve images (approx.) would be required and from them six would have to be chosen to make up the publication.
How do towns encourage people from other parts of the world to visit them. Brochures, advertisements in papers and more than ever the internet. The images that are used must be suitable for people from other countries who may not have english as a first or second language.
Surrey has its own website which shows visitors where they can visit.
What do they all have in common? Images.
With this in mind I set about capturing images from around Dorking. Images that I hope will attract visitors. They had to be:-
- to the point.
- The images would be put onto a website to hopefully encourage visitors to come to Dorking. It would be important to show that this is an Old market town but that there are still many things to do.
From the contact sheet above I looked at the images to see which would make it onto my website
A Basic introduction to the Town, in one image its give the name and four other pieces of information plus the description, “Historic Market Town”
Showing the surroundings of the town, set within the Surrey Hills, close to Box Hill and with our own vineyard.
On the Olympic Road race route, used more and more by visiting cyclists to see if they can manage seven times around Box Hill.
This image shows that there is history to the town, would this attract visitors from over seas
All important Hotel accommodation. (Image shows which group the hotel belongs to so people can find it on the internet prior to their visit)
Over-view of the town.
West Street famous around the world for its antique shops.
Image showing a gallery and a restaurant,
Places to eat, taken from outside and showing the reflection of an old house in the glass.
Clothes shops for visitors. Ladies the world over like to buy clothes.
This shows the sheep that live right in the centre of the town on Rose Hill.
A gentle image that gives a good impression of the town.
