Assignment One – Workflow
This assignment is the first one of my new course,Digital Photography Practice. It is not submitted for formal assessment.
Part one of the course – Workflow, has taken me to London, Norfolk and Oxfordshire and I have to say that it has been one of the most enjoyable sections so far.
Setting out a work flow plan before I set out to take my images has saved me a lot of time.
I have also had good feedback from people who have looked at some of my previous images, which was very welcome.
I decided that I would attend a local event and cover it for a local paper. A quick search on the internet and I found a 1940’s day in Sheringham, Norfolk.
Here is my work flow chart for the event.
This has been a tried and tested workflow over the last few week so I tried to stick to it for this assignment.
The weather was good to start with but then the rain came down, it was a good job that I had the wet weather gear with me.
I also took a great number of shots so the extra memory cards was also welcomed.
After I had finished taking the images I went back to the rented cottage and checked the images. (The event was over two days so I could always go back on the second day if needed.)
Here are some of the shots that failed.
Well why do I think that they were not up to standard?
IMAGE DCS 5128-too dark
IMAGE DCS 5148- person walked across image
IMAGE DCS 5150 the branch!
IMAGE DCS 5202 – the reflection in the window.
IMAGE DCS -5244 as above
IMAGE DCS-5274 person walked across image
IMAGE DCS-5309 hand missing.
After my first review here are the images that I choose to have a closer look at.
As you can see, the images show the days event 1940’s Britain. After reviewing my images I thought that the steam train was a good look to go for. I think that it looked great.
Here are the images that I made for my second selection
I will have to admit here that the final image that has been chosen , as the one that reflected the day best , was not chosen by me. It was selected by my wife, April.
I did like the one she choose and I also liked the two images of the lads on the trains. The girl drinking the tea seems to be deep in thought.
The lady in the street looks like she is having fun. The couple in the uniforms look very smart.
What did my wife like about the image?
Well these are the things she liked.
1. The red lipstick.
2. The colour of the green coat.
3. The lady in the background.
4. The way that the marked glass window has covered the faces of the women.
A review of this assignment will follow after I have had a few comments from friends
