Over the last year I have undertaken my hours of taking pictures. It is only by listening to other photographers and my making your own mistakes that you realise that you must have in place safeguards to protect your images.
There are many things that you can do to reduce your chances of losing product, having good quality equipment, looking after that equipment, knowing how your equipment works and backing up your images.
How do I ensure that I don’t lose my product, well I try to follow this following sequence.
- All equipment checked before I go out.
- Back up equipment for use in case of equipment failures.
- All batteries fully charged
- All images backed up, on 2 different systems.
Upon arrival at the area where I want to take some images I use a device to record a set of colours. This assists later in processing. Then I start taking my pictures. I take time to try to get the best images I can, this cuts down on work on the computer later. After I have captured my images I download it onto a portable hard drive , I then download the product onto my laptop.
In this way I have the image saved in two places.
Later the images are processed.
After returning from a project all my equipment is checked and put away, ready for my next project.
