After reading through the notes I was looking forward to both parts of this exercise as it had been a few months since I had used my lighting equipment. Before starting I read through my notes from the course I completed at the photography School in Reading.
This exercise was split into two parts, for the first part I had to take two images of a still life arrangement with a single light above , two images were to be taken with and without a diffused lighting.
The second part of the exercise will follow.
Here are my two images for the fist part of the exercise:-

Camera settings for the above image are:-
Image 2
Camera settings for the above image are:-
As you can see there are difference in the two images as follows
- F numbers F13 and F16.
- Less shadow in the second image
- More detail in the gloves in the second image
- Less reflection on the crown of the helmet.
Which image do I like better, well I like the second one although the red is brighter on the first image. The simple addition of a diffuser made two different images.
The second part of this exercise is called The lighting angle.
For this I set up a small studio with a plain white background and a 600w light. My camera had an 85mm f1.4 lens attached and was set on a tripod.
I had to take a series of images with the lighting set at different angles. The set up and the execution took two hours but I really liked the results.
Well here are the first set of images.
Light with diffuser level with the subject
The second set of images had the light raised above the objects and set at an angle of 45 degrees
The last three images were taken directly over the objects as follows:-
Well these are my images and I am pleased with them others, of course, may not like them.
Which images do I like, well I like light overhead to the rear and 45 degrees from the left, as they both capture the colour and the shape of the objects. The first three images with the light aimed horizontally at the subjects do not work for me, what do you think.
