For this follow on exercise I had to take the image that I had produced in the last exercise, and crop a new, more dramatic, sky into it. This meant that we were now entering the realms of altering images to make a more pleasing picture. Something that you will remember from one of my lasts posts caused the sacking of a photographer. The image that we will end up with will contain up to three different images merged together.
I set about looking for a sky that would look more interesting for the viewer, again this was not easy, you have to get the sky to match the land otherwise the whole image looks odd. A little bit like the old computer graphics we used to see in films and on tv, things look like they have been stuck on top of each other.
Here is the image from the last exercise, with the new sky added.
Here is the image in black and white, cropped in a pillow box style, to see how it looks:-
It will be interesting to see what people think of the image. It has taken me 6 hours in front of the computer today to make up these 3 images, That’s 2 hours each! I am beginning to think that you are better getting the shot first time in the camera. Of course with time you would become more proficient with the computer and you could wait for hours at a location to get the right shot, but that is what a lot of photographers still do.
