I looked at this exercise for a few days before I decided how to set about completing it. Rather than use one model I thought that I would look at three different situations and see how different people would look at different focal lengths.
I did not use a tripod and I used a 70-200mm lens.
Here are my results taken on two different days
Looking at each set of images I can see qualities in each picture that I like. AS we get closer to the face we see the detail that make each face different. Although each face is made up of the same basic features they are all different.
Consider this quote from The Book of Portrait Photography by Lewinski and Magnus.
“The human face is,without doubt the most individual part of the body. Yet it contains the same basic ingredients, mouth, nose, two cheeks, two eyes and two ears.”
I also like the face that the images are not just head and shoulder shots. The view of the little boy could be cropped to look like this.
The addition of the guys leg make it look like the child was hiding. I also like the fact that he is holding the lollypop.
